Have you ever felt frustrated, alone, anxious or depressed while using dating apps? Or wondered why swiping has led to a lot more swiping than actual dates? If so, you’re far from alone and there are reasons (that have nothing to do with you!) for all of that.
While some people do find healthy, happy experiences and relationships through the apps, Nancy Jo Sales asserts that the big corporations running them are more interested in getting you hooked than finding lasting romance or love—and that using these apps is actually nothing like meeting someone in a bar (as many folks suggest), unless that bar were racist, transphobic and dangerous.
In her new memoir, Nothing Personal: My Secret Life in the Dating App Inferno, Nancy Jo shares her own experience using the apps starting at age 49 and investigates the impact of Big Dating. And she recently joined August to discuss its themes and happenings.
